Surprisingly good show. It's basically a Profiler knock-off done as an ensemble, but for all that the writing is very crisp and the characters quite defined. (This in opposition to a lot of procedurals where character dialogue is basically interchangeable.) I approve.

Also? Freaking fantastic slash. Not that I'm going there as anything other than an appreciative reader (because I need to write in another small, FBI-based procedural fandom like I need a hole in the head), but given the intricacies of the language onscreen I'd expect any fic to be abysmal. And most of it is. But a couple writers have just nailed it. I've been pleasantly surprised.

Say I've got a population of subjects, all of whom have antibodies for a specific virus. Say I want to recreate the virus. Can I do that from the antibodies or do I need a sample of the virus actively infecting a host?

I...have had a busy weekend. It included not writing a damn thing and discovering Jack/Ianto slash. I think, what with the canonical boy!sex and all, that I forgot to go looking for teh porn. Or something. That is my only excuse.

But yay porn! Also, there are some decent writers doing Jack/Ianto. Once again, fandom wins.

In the non-winning category goes HSM fandom, which has ground to a dead halt. My theory is that everyone is working on her fic exchange story. That's my excuse, anyway.

And in the non-slash category (and the wtf!random category) goes the DA plotbunny wherein someone discovers Alec's supposed birthday and decides to throw him a party at Crash. And then all the strippers show up. And everyone he's ever slept with has to climb up on his lap and reacquaint themselves with his mouth. And, like, Biggs is still alive and one of said Alec!conquests and Troy absolutely loses his shit that Alec slept with a guy who is not him.

...I may have been delerious, now that I think about it. 'Cause there's no timeline in the world where that works.

...and I guess the DA portion of this post DOES fall into the slash category, after all. Go figure.

Looks like we have a new Cupid: Bobby Cannavale to play the title role. He hasn't made an impression on me in any of the things I've seen. Anyone else have thoughts? This guy seems favorable.

But I was pondering the other day...would Jensen have been able to pull off this role? SPN and scheduling aside? Beyond my knee-jerk 'Jensen Can Do Anything Better Than Anyone Else Ever' reaction...I wonder. While he's great with the banter, Trevor Hale's brilliance showed through in his speeches - his long, hilarious, rambling, mocking, affecting, HILARIOUS speeches. And I wonder if Jen could do that.

In pilot news...I have the pilot script to Caprica. Which is a two-hour. That seems to be one of the themes this season: the pilots are backdoor two-hours, formats, or remakes. Or, if you're Knight Rider, all three at once! (Okay, so I'm stretching 'format' there...but still).

More proof, should you need it, that there is No Creativity Left in Hollywood. After the strike ended everyone braced for a flood of spec pilots...which never came. It seems that a lot of writers really did take 100 days off writing altogether.

It eludes me.

I'm now convinced that some women in this business just love being the victim. Because they're so concerned about others seeing them as nice that they will not stand up for themselves; it's "not worth it." Apparently nothing is.

It's one thing if we're talking an isolated incident. It's another that I remember being told on my first day that my boss feels like the world is against her. What's changed in two years? Nothing much. Despite numerous suggestions from me, peers, and superiors. That's called a pattern of behavior. Possibly a psychosis.

And then she wonders why she's not more successful. Um, gee. Let's think. When you let everyone run roughshod over you, when you refuse to publicly take a stand, when you're so shocked every time the same goddamn people try to undermine you...what kind of message does that send? Why should people have any respect for you?

Because God knows I lose a little more each day. And it is not my fucking job to coo at you and pat your head. Not when you're the victim by choice.

A few people have sent me messages, because apparently there's now an LJ messaging feature? Which is distinct from the comments feature, um, in some way. The text isn't in the body of the e-mail LJ sends you, that I know for sure (which, imo, makes commenting vastly superior...but I digress).

A couple things:

1. Yes, I am still alive.
2. Yes, I do plan on finishing ASHverse. I even had a thought about it this morning. That thought went something like, "Ha! Poor Alec. Max is so gonna blindside him." When I'm chortling in my head at my own creations, I generally take that as a Good Sign.
3. Yes, I am still working on the pilot (and pilot, part deux). Both are in the 'omg, WHY did I think I could do this?!' stage.
4. I'm also looking for a new job. Because work is a special kind of hell where you're not challenged at all and yet you stay perched on the edge of your seat, shoulders hunched, because you're anticipating the floor falling out from under you, despite the fact that you did everything right, dammit. It's unimaginably fun. And leaves you with so much energy for other things at the end of every day.
5. ...and yet that didn't stop me from outlining the "5 Tickets Dean Didn't Get" fic. Heh. Hehehehe.
6. ...or making pretty HSM icons. Shut up, they're pretty. I made a couple Alec ones, too, so that totally makes it better.

I have absolutely no idea what's going to end up on your TV screens in the fall. I've read some of the (drama) pilots, most of which have been derivative and schlocky. I'm still amazed that those were the ones that survived the strike Axe of Doom. Except for the one on Sci-Fi (of ALL places!). That one's brilliant.

And there's been a dearth of good comfort-food-fic around. And porn. My life is a sad, barren, pornless wasteland. That's the theme. (It's possible this is due to the fact that I'm reading more scripts than fic...which is a sad statement about scripts, huh?)

Cupid picked up to pilot. And it is so, SO good. Particularly amusing was the sheer number of people who sent me the script at the exact same time.

...I may have made my excitement known far and wide. Possibly.

It's sad, every time I hear good news about Cupid Part Deux it makes me all ridiculously happy. As if I had some personal investment in the damn thing.

...and yet, that's about the only thing keeping me coasting along so. I'll take it.

Yeah. Yesterday was another fun day.

My bestest biz friend declared that he'd found the perfect show for me, then sent me the uber-secret, hush-hush script and it is the Best. Shit. EVER.
